About Amber N. Pilkington, M.Psy., LPC-S

ABOUT AMBER PILKINGTON, LPC-S Licensed Professional Counselor & Clinical Supervisor

Amber Pilkington is a Licensed Professional Counselor–Supervisor with advanced training in attachment theory, relational neuroscience, and trauma-informed care. She specializes in working with women and couples who are seeking deeper emotional safety, connection, and lasting relational change.

Amber’s clinical approach integrates evidence-based psychology, neuroscience, and attachment theory, with a focus on helping clients understand why patterns repeat — and how to change them at the level of the nervous system, not just insight or willpower.

Clinical Training & Education

Amber earned her Master of Psychology from the University of Dallas and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of St. Thomas Honors Program with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Catholic Studies, with minors in Theology and Philosophy.

Her advanced clinical training includes:

  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 3)
  • Advanced Training in Infidelity Recovery
  • Advanced Training in Trauma Recovery
  • Polyvagal Theory & Applied Neuroscience
  • Neuropsychotherapy Certification
  • Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD and Anxiety
  • Advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

She is also a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist and an ADHD Clinical Specialist.

Professional Experience & Leadership

Amber has worked in a variety of clinical and community settings, including Menninger Specialty Psychiatric Hospital in Houston, Texas, a nationally recognized psychiatric treatment center. She later co-founded Dignity Women’s Centerin San Antonio alongside her husband, Steven Pilkington, MD, providing integrated, values-informed care for women and families.

Her academic writing has been published in The Humanistic Psychologist, an American Psychological Association journal. She is also the author of Women, Food, and Christ, a workbook addressing women’s struggles with food and body image through an attachment-informed and psychological lens.

Amber regularly collaborates with physicians, spiritual directors, and marriage ministries to support comprehensive care for her clients. She also speaks nationally to women’s conferences, clergy, and universities on topics related to the integration of psychology, neuroscience, and emotional health.

Therapeutic Philosophy

Amber believes therapy works best when it is warm, honest, and grounded in science. Her work is relational rather than symptom-driven, focused on helping clients develop emotional regulation, secure attachment, and healthier patterns of connection.

Clients often describe her style as calm, direct, compassionate, and deeply attuned. She is particularly experienced in working with:

  • Relationship and marriage concerns
  • Infidelity recovery
  • Anxiety and mood disorders
  • ADHD
  • Grief and trauma
  • Attachment-related patterns
